IDA Ireland, the Government agency tasked with attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Ireland has a network of seven regional offices across Ireland in addition to its HQ in Dublin. Regional Manager Mary McEvoy promotes the region, spanning Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford, as an attractive destination for international companies to locate in, while also supporting the existing base of IDA Ireland client companies in the region so that they can continue to grow their operations.

IDA Ireland currently has 83 client companies employing 16,395 people directly.  The region has won investments across several key sectors including life sciences: biopharmaceuticals, food and medical technologies; technology; and engineering. Twenty-two of those companies are in Wexford, employing over 3,400 people.

Talent is always key for investors seeking to internationalise their operations. The South East region is strongly supported through South East Technological University (SETU), which will ensure a continuous flow of excellent 3rd level graduates across the four counties and through Waterford – Wexford Education & Training Board, which delivers a pipeline of relevantly skilled people eager to take on new roles.  

Further Education and Training (FET) is undergoing significant investment and transformation through Ireland’s FET College of the Future initiative, creating modern, industry-focused learning environments that support workforce development and lifelong learning. Delivering flexible pathways from apprenticeships and technical training to upskilling and reskilling programmes, the initiative is designed to ensure businesses have access to a highly skilled, adaptable talent pipeline equipped to meet the evolving needs of industry.
