Agri-Food & Seafood in County Wexford
The agri-food sector accounts for some eight per cent (8%) of GDP and a similar proportion of total employment, amounting to almost 160,000 jobs and sustaining a large proportion of jobs in rural and coastal communities (Bord Bia).
Irish agri-food exports reached a record €19 billion in value, sold across more than 190 markets worldwide. Dairy, beef and beverages were among the leading export categories, with Ireland’s food and drink producers maintaining strong global demand for high-quality products (Bord Bia, 2025).
County Wexford is a central pillar of Ireland’s €1.3 billion seafood economy, centred around Kilmore Quay, one of the nation’s top ports with annual landings exceeding 4,100 tonnes. The region is a significant exporter of high-value seafood, particularly premium scallops and lobster, serving markets across Europe and Asia (BIM, 2024).
With close proximity to Rosslare Europort, the county provides one of the fastest direct maritime links to mainland Europe, supporting efficient transport of temperature-sensitive exports (Rosslare Europort, 2024). For investors, County Wexford offers a stable and strategically located hub with potential for growth in value-added food processing, cold-chain logistics, and marine biotechnology.
WEXFORD FOOD PRODUCERS NETWORK
The Wexford Food Producers Network provides a centralised member led and member representative organisation with a core remit to promote and support the business of Wexford food.
The organisation has approximately fifty members who are Wexford based Sole Trader Start Ups, Micro Enterprises, SME’s and large companies. Their continued aim is to support Wexford Food and Drink producers, to build a sustainable food industry and to contribute significantly to the Irish economy on a local, regional and national level.
The Wexford Food Producers Network is recognised and supported by Wexford County Council, Wexford Local Enterprise Office and Wexford Local Development.
