Heritage, History and Stories

Wexford’s rich past is visible at every turn. From the world-famous Hook Lighthouse, the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, to the remarkable heritage sites that tell the stories of Vikings, Normans and Ireland’s maritime traditions, the county offers a unique journey through time. The Norman Way, historic abbeys, castles and heritage centres provide authentic insights into the people and events that shaped Ireland. 

Visitors can also explore some of the county’s leading attractions, including Johnstown Castle Estate, Museum & Gardens, the Irish National Heritage Park, Dunbrody Famine Ship, and new heritage experiences being developed that will further strengthen Wexford’s position as a premier cultural destination.

Wexford Town, Gorey, Enniscorthy and New Ross form the county’s key tourism hubs, each with its own distinct character, heritage and visitor offering.
