The Wexford Food Producers Network

The Wexford Food Producers Network (WFPN) brings together the finest food and drink producers in Wexford, where they collaborate, share ideas, knowledge, trade insights and most of all celebrate the county’s award-winning produce.

The members are dedicated to growing the food industry in Wexford and aims to make their county’s industry one of the strongest in Ireland.

Established in 2011 to promote the Wexford food brand at local, domestic and international levels the WFPN now has over 50 members ranging from one-person start-ups to large export-driven makers and producers and aims to make their county’s industry one of the strongest in Ireland. The county has long had an enviable reputation for food excellence and these producers are the reason why. Their dedication to using the finest local ingredients ensures that the title of ‘the model county’ for farming and agri-food businesses is wholly apt.

Former Chair of the WFPN, Trudie Power says that the Wexford Food Family’s success is palpable. “Our collective large number of award-winning food producers brings with it a real power when we work together to create events, drive the Wexford brand on local menus across the hospitality industry and get the word out in terms of the availability of local produce and the huge variety that we have on offer.”

We also work in terms of seasonality, for example in the summertime we highlight those producers growing strawberries and producing strawberry products,; Strawberry cordial, strawberry Yogurt, strawberry jam, and strawberry vodka, announcing at every opportunity that it is strawberry season and that Wexford is renowned for its strawberries. There’s no other county in Ireland that has strawberries like Wexford. So these are areas of opportunity for us to highlight as a group of producers.”

A lot of Wexford food producers create hand-made products, these products are created using locally grown or sourced ingredients so there are far fewer food miles involved in supporting local. The majority of food producers are using sustainable packaging so, not only is the customer getting the very best of local food produce but it is a far more sustainable option too.

Trudie says, “Wexford has the full package, it’s a beautiful destination, looking out to sea with miles of coastline. We have the best of hotels, the best of chefs, the best of towns and villages, and the best of foods, and that’s where I feel that the Wexford Food Family and Taste Wexford and the tourism experts all need to be working together to win in a county that supports the food producer and a food producer that supports the county.”
