Financial Services
CSC
CSC is the world’s leading provider of business administration and compliance solutions. The business supports alternative asset managers across a range of fund strategies from capital markets participants in public and private markets to corporations requiring fiduciary and governance support. We are the unwavering partner for 90% of the Fortune 500 ® , 10,000 law firms, and more than 3,000 financial institutions. CSC professionals are located in key financial centres across the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Paul Whelan, Managing Director of Depositary Services for CSC’s Global Financial Solutions business says “We are an international company capable of transacting wherever our clients are, and we accomplish that by deploying experts in every market we serve.”
Founded in 1899, CSC is a privately held business that has been providing expert services to clients for more than 125 years. Our private ownership status and long-term stability contrast with much of the corporate services market, which is dominated by private equity-owned businesses built for sale and publicly traded companies driven by quarterly profit targets.
Paul notes that the business is rapidly heading towards 40 people in Wexford, which is significant given that the office was established in June 2020 and growth has doubled since then. CSC also has more than 200 people based in its Dublin office.
In determining its second Irish location Paul says that the company ethos was pivotal to the decision, “We are defined by our people. Our global team of experts provides world-class expertise across a range of transaction types, regions, and asset classes and we pride ourselves on our personalised approach to client service. Given the vital emphasis that our people play in our business model, it was important to select a location where there is a high concentration of talent. Wexford fits the bill.
There are a number of factors that require scrutiny when choosing an office location. We looked at the availability of suitable office space, access to a deep pool of talent and proximity to a university, proximity to the airport, availability of accommodation, and the lifestyle benefits of the location.”

The team in Wexford is multifaceted and primarily focuses on delivering fund administration, depositary, and capital market services to a global client base. They work on all aspects of service delivery and take ownership of client relationships. CSC does not have a functionalised model and as a result, the team gains a more rounded, in-depth experience, which increases their knowledge base. They are given the responsibility and accountability for delivering world-class service to CSC clients.
In terms of attracting and maintaining talent in Wexford, Paul says, “Our management teams are experienced, long-tenured employees with backgrounds in law, banking, and accountancy who are relentless in their drive to deliver exceptional service. They are always looking for talented individuals to join the team and grow in the financial services industry.
I think most businesses in Ireland have had to battle to attract talent in the current environment. It is easier to attract and retain talent in Wexford than in larger urban centres. Wexford now has its own financial services ecosystem, and this ecosystem generates a rich pool of talent on a continual basis.
Our team members really enjoy the lifestyle benefits that living and working in Wexford has to offer. Wexford is an affordable location, with housing and childcare costs that are significantly less than other areas. Commute times are not an issue and people experience a great work-life balance which allows them to take advantage of the beaches, mountains, growing food scene, and to get involved in the communities that they live in.”
Being based in Wexford with CSC also offers global opportunities. Paul states, “Our global presence is one of our differentiators in the market. We have professionals in the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific that work as one to deliver fully complementary and multi-jurisdictional solutions. Our global capabilities and team-based approach enable us to work in partnership with our clients regardless of market, service, or asset type.
CSC is supportive of employees transferring across our global office footprint. We are growing all the time with offices from New York to Singapore and across Europe. We offer opportunities for our employees to gain international experience and learn about different cultures and languages—a key element of our retention strategy.”
Another key feature of CSC’s location strategy is the proximity of a university that can supply talent to the business on a continual basis. Having a university with a campus in Wexford is a crucial factor in attracting businesses to Wexford.
The organisation already works closely with South East Technological University (SETU) and plans to develop that relationship further. “We have developed a strong relationship with SETU and support the SETU internship each year. We have found the internship program to be hugely beneficial to CSC and the students. We plan to expand our links with SETU in the future. In fact, several members of our team
are completing Master’s degrees in SETU.”
Aside from an attractive talent pool, Paul cites the ease of doing business in Wexford as a key attraction factor. “The ease of doing business in Wexford has been fantastic. The welcome we received, in general, was great. Wexford County Council were extremely helpful and accommodating as we looked to establish the business and we have excellent office space in the M11 Business Park in Gorey.”
Looking to the future, Paul says that for CSC in Wexford, “The future looks bright. We plan to grow the office year on year on a long-term basis while expanding the services lines supported out of the Wexford office.”
